You’ve just printed an invitation to your company’s 10th-anniversary celebration, and everything looks great. There are no overlooked typos, and everything is centered correctly.

Unfortunately, you’ve neglected to confirm the paper properties before printing, and the toner hasn’t set to the glossy cardstock you’ve chosen. Your only recourse is to reprint the entire job and hope you have time to make it to the post office before closing time.

If you’ve ever been in the above situation, you may not have understood what went wrong. Paper types, weights, textures, and even colors can radically affect the outcome of your print jobs. Difficulties like ghosting and toner residues can often be corrected by letting your Xerox multifunction copier or laser printer know what type of paper you’re loading into the paper tray.

Confirming paper properties

Confirming your paper’s properties before printing is not difficult to do, and once you’ve learned the process, you’ll be dealing with far fewer image issues in the future. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Open the paper tray and fan the paper.
  2. Adjust the guides to fit your paper size and avoiding loading above the maximum fill line. Close the tray.
  3. Your Xerox touchscreen interface will display a selection of paper properties, allowing you to confirm or change the type, size, and color of the paper you’re using.
  4. Choose from standard paper type selections like plain, transparency, cardstock, glossy cardstock, hole-punched, letterhead, recycled, labels, etc. Touch CONFIRM to verify your selection.
  5. Envelopes or oversized paper can be loaded into your Xerox device’s bypass tray.

Not sure about your paper’s properties? The label attached to the end of your paper’s packaging will include information about paper size, type, and color.
