We’ve all been in situations when we desperately need to print a document, and the device ignores our request. Before you give into frustration and throw your copiers in the recycling bin, check out our troubleshooting guide first.

The Obvious Issues

We know you’re aware of these common problems and their fixes, but when a deadline is approaching fast, it’s easy to overlook the obvious. Here’s our short list of “I knew that” fixes.

  1. It’s on, right? When you’re in a hurry, it’s easy to miss that little indicator light.
  2. Is there a paper jam? The last person who used the device may have left you a gift. Check for paper jams and be sure to forgive them–it may have been unintentional.
  3. Did you check for paper? Haven’t we all done this?
  4. Is the toner or ink cartridge empty? You may just need to pop in a new toner cartridge. Here’s hoping that’s the only problem, and you can get back to printing your report.
  5. Have you selected the right device? In an office with multiple copiers, it’s easy to choose one device and wait for your document at another.
  6. Is the device connected to Wi-Fi? If you’re accessing a wireless printer, the device may have lost its connection to your network.
  7. Have you checked for error messages? Your copier may be trying to tell you something. Check for messages and follow the prompts on the interface to clear up the issue.
  8. Is a paused job holding things up? Check the queue to see if a paused print job is ahead of your request.

The Not-So-Obvious Issues

Outdated drivers may just ignore your request. Check the manufacturer’s website for an updated version.
